Felt Nun - 4 Track EP (San Antonio TX 1988)

Okay so you're probably thinking enough with the tapes already but seriously, the tape explosion has just begun, so please bare with me... I have a lot of tapes to go... but I will of course be uploading my standard vinyl stuffs too but I just recently got my bad ass tape player hookup so I've been catching up on all these demos. I felt like since I had already done a 90s bedroom indie and a neosoul joint I should get back to the meat of the tape collecting world and do a new wave/synthpop/minimalwave release, so I am going to unleash yet another utterly unknown and unheard gem from the TX demo tape collection on you with this one, presenting... FELT NUN. The San Antonio synthpop/newwave group from 1988. I actually really started to like the first track, 'oh boy' after a few listens and then the rest of the tape grew on my as well, lots of nice moments here, the first track is probably the most upbeat and poppy, theres a little bit darker moments if thats your thing. So I'm quite happy with this find, cause trust me, decently good synthpop tapes that are still unknown are not easy to come by at all. Enjoy.

I have a pakistani rap demo and a hilarious girl rap tape from 1994 killeen texas but Rap demos are so hard to find, and usually worth a lot of money if theyre half way decent. The one time I thought I found a rap demo it was actually just a DJ megamix demo from 1990. Kinda cool to hear the scratching and homespun style but it was just pop rap hits from 1990.

i took it down temporarily while my Ebay auction of the tape was up. It seems to annoy buyers if rare stuff is being hosted for free listening by the seller, but once the items are auctioned I usually try to remember to put the link back, unless I deleted it, in which case I appologize and will have to re upload it at some point. Not many people were into it anyway.

Which one's yr uncle? I went to college with Steve & knew the rest of the boys back in the day. Loved 'em. Saw them a zillion times. I may have to go dig up my own Felt Nun cassette now.

Hey, just curious, was this the only Felt Nun release? Is there a personal demo tape as well? I thought they had a lot of promise actually, when I heard the first song. Pretty excellent new wave pop stuff. But the others weren't so hot, listenable definitely, but not as good. It's interesting that there are so many connection to the band on the comments now.

This was the only official release I know of. There are probably old demos hanging around somewhere, but I have no idea who might have them. They were really great live and the recordings don't capture their live energy. I saw them all over San Antonio when I went to Trinity. (I was there from 1984 to 1989.)

Jezebella - this is Kenny, lead singer and guitar. I have a ton of old recordings. Tony and Steve are in Austin, and Raul (drummer) is still in San Antonio. He and I were neighbors for a long time over by SeaWorld.

Oh boy is still my favorite. Awesome! Oh and I'm Kenny jr. The lead guitarists son. I feel famous now. " and then he wakes uuuuuuuup. "

Kenny - Chris Bright here - so great seeing this online - I had a bunch of recordings I made when I was in the band (briefly!) but sadly they were stolen out of a storage space I had rented.. Hope all is well! My brother just sent me the link to the you tube clips.

I found another copy :) I don't think it sells for a ton sadly... But that's good for you if you're still looking... I doubt anyone else has one. I found the 2nd copy at the exact same place and they said definitively that they only had 1 more. I agree its quality catchy pop though extremely lofi, luckily that sound is a desirable thing now.

Andrea Utzinger here-so crazy!!! I was just thinking about Felt Nun a week ago and telling my bass player daughter about them (I was also at Trinity from 1984-89, friends with the band and faithful groupie), and several days later I ran into my boyfriend from that period (who came from our home in Washington state to live with me in San Antonio in '86), and he surprised me by playing "oh boy" on his phone for me! So weird that he had been thinking about them as well and happened to look online and find that their songs were up! So here we are in Ellensburg, Washington, standing on the street, listening to spotify and transported back to that crazy time... Hello Steve and Tony! Did one of you put these songs up? So cool to hear them again. 😄 I too have cassettes still!
